“I was hungover, sitting in my studio, everyone else was working around me. I had Road House streaming from Netflix, I started drawing it, more than anything just to look busy. However as I got through the first few scenes I thought how it would be nice to truly immerse myself in a project that would take some time and with that time become it’s own thing.”
For three months Babak spent his free time drawing a planned picture per minute but with 185 drawings somewhere he overshot the plan by over 70 drawings.
The drawings offer a narrative as if the movie were re-imagined as a black and white silent film, but each picture has been titled to operate in its own right. The titles
are occasionally reference the movie itself but most are quotes from people like Foucoult, Foster Wallace, Baudrillard, Ali to comedians Richard Pryor and Steve Martin.
